My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is SKY and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Maltese mix

  • Age: 2 years

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 13 lbs (6 kg)

  • Height: 25 cm (paws to shoulders)

  • Length: 47 cm (head to butt)

  • Chest Circumference: 41 cm

  • Neck Circumference: 27 cm

RESCUE STORY - Me, my doggy siblings, and my mama (Bea) were abandoned when our parents got divorced. Despite having lived in a home, my family was very dirty, thin, and neglected when we were rescued. Here is a video of me, my siblings, and our mum when we first arrived at the shelter. Luckily, the kind hoomans at the shelter cleaned us, had us assessed by a trusted vet, and gave us proper food. We are now back in excellent health and are ready to start over!

  • my "siblings" are Obi & Chewy (bonded pair, not my biological bros) and Luke (biological bro). We were rescued along with my biological mom (Bea).

TEMPERAMENT - I am a calm, independent boy who will easily win your heart! I absolutely love humans and other dogs- my current routine here is to sleep in late, greet the humans (and promptly receive affection, hehe), get some cuddles and then play! I am a happy, playful boy who loves to play with dogs of all ages. I also like playing with my ball at the park.  I love mealtime and don't show any resource guarding when I eat around the other dogs. I love eating croquettes, chicken, carrots, and tortillas. When nighttime comes around, I like to sleep with my brother Luke. We also share our bed with a 10 year old doggy... one big cuddle puddle! Despite my neglect-filled start to life, I have maintained my puppy innocence and hope to find a loving home and a family that will never abandon me again.

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium/Low - I have bouts of playfullness but I also really love to just chill, snooze, or cuddle!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown.

  • Dogs –  Yes. I play with dogs of all sizes at the shelter and show no resource guarding tendencies. I love hanging at the park with my other doggy friends (video, video 2)

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Pretty good! I am sometimes a bit hesitant on leash and need some coaxing, but I'm sure I'll get more confident with time! As with most young dogs, I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Here is are some videos of me on leash (video, video 2).

  • House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm, Brucellosis, Parvo, and Distemper before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST and PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
