My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Macy a beautiful gentle regal 5 year old German Shepherd looking for a foster or foster to adopt home while she recovers from some manageable medical issues. She has bladder stones as a result of long-standing urinary tract infections that weren't treated, and is on a special diet to help dissolve them as well as antibiotics to treat the infection. We are hopeful that surgery won't be needed but she's being closely monitored by our vets and we have more testing pending to see if they are the types of stones that can be fully dissolved. She will likely need to stay on a prescription diet longterm to prevent future issues and regular urine checks to catch any future infections before they get out of hand and lead to more stone formation.
Besides the urinary issues, she's a pretty perfect dog! She's lived with other dogs and cats and is a lovely sweet girl who has quickly become a staff favorite and hopes to find a stable home very soon. Please submit an application to foster or adopt her.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
