My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Macintosh aka Mac | 2-3 years old| 100 lbs | Red Tick Coonhound?| GTA

Mac is 100lbs of pure love, and he's looking for someone to share it with.

He was found as a stray, along with another dog, likely abandoned by his original family. Mac was very stressed at the shelter that took him in, so we brought him into our care to help him find the love he's looking for.

Mac was a shelter favourite because of his big, sweet heart. The shelter volunteers all loved to walk him. His fosters have also fallen in love with what they describe as his "heart of gold". He just wants peace, love, and attention. He follows his fosters around with big, innocent eyes hoping to have his ears scratched. He loves to keep them company in the kitchen and munch on a carrot, his favourite snack. At night, he will curl up in their room and check on them periodically to make sure they are still there and sleeping soundly.

Mac is good with dogs, kids, and cats. He gets along great with the dogs in his foster home, and despite being much bigger than them, he never tries to exert dominance. He ignores the family cat with a peaceful "live and let live" attitude. He knows sit, down, and paw commands, and waits politely until he gets the go ahead to eat his food. He is so eager to please his people, and learns quickly.

It is a common misconception that big dogs need a lot of exercise. Mac is actually a real chiller. He needs a couple of good walks a day and then he's perfectly happy to relax at home. He walks well on leash, but is still working on ignoring other dogs who he desperately wants to play with! With time and practice, we're confident this will cease to be an issue.

This is a really special dog who has an open and loving spirit, despite being disappointed by people in his past. He is absolutely thriving in a home environment where he can decompress and get the love and attention he craves. Nobody deserves a forever family and a stable home more than him.

Mac is pure sunshine in canine form. If you could use some extra warmth and light as the days get shorter, fill out an application for Mac today: https://form.jotform.com/pawsacrossthewater/adoption-application

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers trying to help local and international rescuers who desperately need help to rehome their dogs. It started as a fundraising effort to help them with vet costs and food so they could help more strays on the street. However, rescue is not complete without a forever home and they were overwhelmed with so many dogs and no homes to send them to. There are so many sweet, loving and friendly dogs and along with fundraising, we hope to find homes for their dogs so they can continue to help more.
