My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you look up "love bug" in the dictionary, you'll find Xander. This sweet little guy is the perfect mix of playful pup and old soul. He loves to cuddle but also enjoys his alone time on a cozy bed or a few rounds of wrestling with his senior foster brother. While he hasn't been tested with cats, he's fascinated by everything and is full of curiosity.

Sudden loud noises might make him jump, but he's quick to snuggle up and move on. Xander is still learning how to "dog," and while he's not a pro on the leash yet, he's a fast learner-he mastered puppy pads in just a few hours! He'll need guidance transitioning to outdoor potty breaks, but once he understood the pads, he didn't have a single accident. What a good boy.

Like any young dog, Xander has some energy and loves to chew, but give him an appropriate toy, and he's happy to redirect his focus. Some of his quirks include being unsure of shadows, staring at himself in the mirror, sleeping in odd positions and being puzzled by his reflection in the window. Whoever adopts this sweet, soulful pup will be incredibly lucky to have him as part of their family.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The LA/SPCA pet adoption process includes meeting with a matchmaker to match your lifestyle with the perfect companion. You will spend time with any of the pets you think would be a great companion. You may even want to come back another day to make sure he is the one! All of our animals must be spayed or neutered before you can take them home. Sometimes your perfect companion has not had this procedure done, so please be patient with us if you have to come back to pick him up.

All of our animals have been spayed or neutered before they are released for adoption. We encourage anyone with animals to spay or neuter their pets.

More about this shelter

Chartered in 1888, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) is the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state. Our mission is to advocate for the animals of Louisiana by advancing their welfare, promoting their interests, and fostering the human-animal bond through innovative programs, education, and service.

The LA/SPCA is not a state, parish or city governed shelter. We are an independent 501(c)3 non-profit offering a broad range of services and programs including advocacy, legislative services, statewide cruelty investigations, sheltering, full-service animal control (Orleans Parish only), adoption, disaster response, education, and obedience programs.
