My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Scorpio appreciates attention and petting but appears to be mildly fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to an adult-only home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.

A volunteer writes: Scorpio may have a bit of a worried look, but similar to a snapshot of shelter life, this one look isn't everything. For example, in his previous home, Scorpio loved to play. Each time I've offered a toy in the shelter, Scorpio acts like he's never seen one before and is subsequently terrified of them. I've tried sparkle balls, a pipe cleaner feather and even a little toy mouse only to watch him crunch himself up to get away. Though I recognize it could be me, it's also true that different contexts bring out different versions of ourselves. Either way, sometimes we need to spend time with our friends to learn about their strengths and what Scorpio undeniably excels at is his playful and loving stretches. Scorpio stretched his paws toward me doing some kind of front paw bicycle and a backwards reach and lean all completed, of course, in the most theatrical fashion imaginable. I love this game and tried to follow along but understandably got lost in the cuteness. Scorpio picked me up from my confusion and gave me a chance to try again. We hope you'll pick him up and give him a second chance, too.
