My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say Cheese! Meet Cheddar, this little yummy cutie who will definitely make you smile. Cheddar is a sweet boy who loves to play with toys and wrestle with his brother Colby. He will sit in your lap and enjoys being held for short periods of time. As you can see, he has beautiful coloring and markings with eyes that match his fur.

Cheddar and Colby have been raised together and have become very bonded. Therefore, they need to be adopted together. If you are looking for a ready-made pair, come meet these two handsome fellows!

Behaviorally and socially, it’s best to adopt young cats in pairs, or into a home with a compatible playful cat. Kittens really need a feline playmate in their forever home…and then they can get to play, and snuggle while you're not home, wrestle with each other instead of with your ankles, and grow up with an always-available companion.

Cheddar's approximate date of birth is 5/15/24 and his adoption fee is $195, which includes: vet exam, Feleuk/FIV test, FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccinations, routine dewormings, flea control, microchip and neuter.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process: Adopt-A-Pet does not own a shelter facility. Because all of our animals are in private foster homes, they are shown by appointment, after an application has been submitted.

How to start the process: Contact us by email or phone. An adoption counselor will return your message within 1-2 days. You will be asked to fill out an application that will ask for personal information about your family, your home and about the kind of pet you're looking for. Vet references, personal references and landlord information (if applicable) is required. You can also download an application from our website. Once you return the application, an adoption counselor will call you back for a more thorough interview, again within 1-2 days. Sometimes it may take a little longer as we're all volunteers and sometimes it gets very busy. Assuming the pet you're interested in appears to be a match for you, a meeting will then be set up. For some animals, a home check may be required. If an adoption takes place, you will be asked to sign a contract and pay an adoption fee. Each animal's individual adoption fee is posted in its description on our websites.

More about this rescue

ADOPT-A-PET is an all-volunteer non-profit animal shelter/adoption agency dedicated to saving the lives of lost, abandoned or otherwise homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and placing them into permanent, loving homes.

ADOPT-A-PET provides a safe refuge and a second chance for unclaimed animals from various municipal pounds and, space permitting, accepts other homeless, neglected or injured animals from their rescuers.

ADOPT-A-PET was founded in 1981, and has since saved the lives of over 15,000 animals. All animals at Adopt-A-Pet are found permanent loving homes. Animals remain with us for as long as it takes to find them a suitable permanent new home.

ADOPT-A-PET does not own a shelter facility. All of our animals are boarded at co-operating animal hospitals or in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by their new families.

ADOPT-A-PET provides all necessary medical care for every animal. All animals are health-checked, vaccinated, treated for medical problems and spayed/neutered.

ADOPT-A-PET is available for educational speaking engagements to schools and community groups in Chicago or the suburbs to promote proper pet care, compassion for animals, and the importance of spaying and neutering.
