My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ABOUT SPUNKY
Spunky is the truly best of both worlds! Whether you are looking for a snuggle buddy or hiking partner, she is up for anything. Spunky came to us from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for her. Despite being in a new place, this 1 year old girl is just happy to be saved! Spunky quickly falls in love with everyone she meets, greeting you with a gentle hug and kiss. Naturally, her adorable personality and wonderful temperament won over the hearts of our volunteers. Spunky has participated in our Doggy Day Out program, where she enjoys her days outside of the shelter. Check out what our volunteers have to say about their time with her:

"Spunky is such a sweet and curious girl!! She has lots of energy and was a wonderful adventure buddy for a long walk around Bellevue State Park. She wanted to say hi to everyone that passed, but it was easy to get by with just leash tension or treats. She also got TWO pup cups at Dunkin cause they accidentally made two - she had no problems with this lol. Full of energy and smiles, love this girl!" - Faith

"We had a great day yesterday with Spunky! We started our day with a pup cup, which she ate very politely, but we quickly realized that this girl definitely lives up to her name! She loved to say hi to anyone and everyone on our walk through Brandywine Park, sometimes standing up to give them hugs and even kisses (see Geico gecko pic lol)! She also seemed interested in other dogs if they were close by but was also perfectly content to walk on past them to keep moving forward. She did seem pretty unphased by the crowd at the Brandywine Arts festival and was happily soaking up all the attention and compliments saying what a pretty girl she is! She is such a joy to be around and I think could fit nicely into a family of first-time owners or a family who have doggie siblings for her to play with! I hope this big lovebug finds her perfect home really soon!" - Olivia

"Today I had the pleasure of taking Spunky out for a DDO. We went to my apartment, worked on some sit and down commands. After that we took a break with some toys, she loved my plushies wayyy more than the toys I had set out for her but in the end she settled for the donut. We then chilled in front of the TV and went in a fenced area to play a little. We walked for a mile and then started heading back, she slept for the whole car ride back! Such a sweet dog, hopefully she will find a home soon! She was not territorial at all with the toys and let me touch and play with her paws and her tail, she wanted to say hi to all the people we saw, but she did not react at all to any dogs even if the dogs were barking. We also saw a few kids, one of them brave enough to approach and pet her, she was super friendly!)" - Fani

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
