Meet Butters! This cute little package is estimated at 5 to 6 years old and is 21 lb.
He originally weighed 30 lb and his skin was so tight he could barely stand up on the sofa edge. But after losing 9 lb, he can hop into a chair or on the sofa and run after his ball with no problem.
The individual that took him after his mom died and his dad could not care for him said he was very sweet, but not used to being rubbed on or really touched. He was not used to being snuggled or hugged and was kind of apprehensive. He has come so far and now likes to snuggle up next to you, but not necessarily have you pet him while he's there. He was very touchy about his undercarriage and feet and around his tail. But after he figured out he could trust his new caretaker she could rub his belly, pick up his front end and hug on him, and snuggle his face. He really likes to stay in the company of his person and supervise dishwashing, laundry, or shower taking as needed.
He had lived outside loose his whole life, but thanks to the help of the other dogs he quickly learned to use the doggie door and comes and goes as he pleases and goes outside when he has to go potty. The first time there was a storm, he was so scared to go outside for obvious fear of not being able to come back in to stay.
He loves to play fetch, all day if possible. He has been living with 15 to 20 dogs for the last several months and was fantastic. He is not a fan of sharing special squeaky toys or the good bone chews and definitely not his wiggle waggle giggle ball. But he has never provoked a discussion, though he may from time to time give warning growls.
He initially met a couple cats while on-leash outside. He sniffed them and acted as if he didn't really know what they were. After a few weeks, he started really fixating on them through the fence, of course they run around on the other side of the fence playing and jumping in the trees. Now, if he slips out the gate or the door, he immediately goes after them. He will also fixate on turtles.
He likes children, especially if throwing they are his ball, but do not think younger children would be the best to not corner him or force the issue with his legs or feet. He's a real companion for sure, but you have to be careful because he's at your feet majority of the time so be aware that you don't trip. You will hear his ball drop constantly as he reminds you that he is there and for you to throw it.
He is very much an easy keeper, it only took 5 minutes to give him a bath. And even though he's probably never had a bath before, he did so good.
He is neutered, current on rabies and dhpp vaccines, had Bordetella, and was heartworm tested negative. He has been on monthly prevention since tested.
Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.
Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else.
We promise our fosters that we will qualify all potential adopters before we ask them to communicate with potential adopters.

We are 100% volunteer powered. Volunteers process the applications and need time above their personal needs and full-time jobs to process the apps.

Our adoption fee is $300 which includes spay/neuter, DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies, HW check, and microchip.
Russell Rescue dogs are fostered in the Middle Tennessee area. We do not ship/transport our dogs, so the approved adopter must be willing to travel to Tennessee. Russell Rescue will try to first place our rescue dogs locally or in surrounding states.
Russell Rescue is not open to the public for visiting hours. We do not have a physical location of our own.
