My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Update 9/15 - Teddy is doing fantastic and adjusted super well to his new foster home.  He is one of the calmest, sweetest, easiest foster puppies I have ever had.  He has recovered from his upper respiratory infection and his neuter.  He does well in his crate and is an absolute joy to have around the house.  He does great with my dogs and very is friendly and appropriate meeting new people.  If you are looking for a calm and affectionate companion for your family, Teddy is your guy!

Teddy 6833 is just about the sweetest pup you will ever come across. This boy has the sweetest demeanor, his eyes are pure and gentle and he's precious. Teddy was a stray in a very crowded NC shelter. We do not know his exact age but would guess 7-9 months. He is petite and needs to put on some much needed weight. Unfortunately, while in the shelter Teddy picked up a bug and has been battling a yucky upper respiratory infection since being in foster care. He arrived with a fever, poor guy's lymph nodes were pretty swollen and he was full of worms. He has finished his 3 day course of panacur, he is currently on an antibiotic and probiotic. His nose is still pretty snotty and he's been feeling lethargic but he has been resting nicely and is starting to feel better. He's got a little more pep in his step and will protest in his crate for a few minutes. Otherwise, he is crate-trained and house-trained. Teddy is very much a puppy in his mannerisms and play but he is not mouthy at all. Teddy is pure sweetness and would likely do well in a home with children. He does well with other dogs. He has met a cat and was interested but nothing that cannot be worked through!

9/11/24 update: Teddy was very sick and after a few vet visits and lots of medication he is SO much better. He's happy, playful and full of puppy energy. Teddy loves taking stuffy toys and tossing them to himself. He is figuring out new toys and enjoys chewing on bones. He is 100% house trained and crate trained. He is affectionate and sweet. He can be scared in new environments but adjusts quickly. Teddy is a gem!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

An applicant first submits an application form with a non-refundable $10.00 (cash or check only) processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 (cash or check ONLY) minimum adoption donation to VGSR to help defray the costs of getting the dog fully vetted and ready to be adopted, and the adoption is completed.

More about this rescue

We provide a valuable service by finding good homes for the German Shepherd Dogs in our care. In the seven plus years that we have been in existence, we have found homes for over 2,400 deserving dogs. We are currently enlisting active volunteers to help with the task of placing some really wonderful, but homeless, German Shepherd Dogs. Our goal is to place all GSDs that are accepted into our Rescue in loving homes in which the GSD and the family will thrive together.
