My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My history is a mystery. I was found in a ditch curled up on a pair of jeans. I was pretty scared. I'm very slowly learning to trust. I'm a great size at about 18 lbs. If you have the patience for me come around and get my confidence, I could be the one you are looking for. I am a special case. I'm not going outside or walking on a leash yet, so when they say patience, they really mean a lot of patience and determination - that is what it will take to help me have a good life. To elaborate a bit more, I never wag my tail. I won't sit next to you on the sofa. I don't like it when you touch me. I mean - - - I'm a really special case.

If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come.

Go meet their pets

Our Shelter is open every day from 10am-4pm, except Sundays. On Sundays, we are open from noon-4pm.

We are open for walk-ins, but we recommend appointments because some of our pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment with another potential adopter. We just don't want you to come to our location and be disappointed if you can't meet a pet you are interested in.

You can select an appointment time using this link: https://koalendar.com/e/meet-and-greet-appointment.
