My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

Update 10/23 Zara started at the Paws in Prison program on 10/23/24. While there, she will work daily with an inmate on the basics and maybe even a few tricks, and  meet weekly with a dog trainer. In about 8 weeks she will graduate with her canine good citizen certificate and will be ready to go to a new home!
10/10 Still available!
8/29/24 This is Zara. She is a pit bull mix. She was born 12/1/2023. She has lived outside until a couple weeks ago when she was rescued. She is very much still a puppy and learning that not everything goes in her mouth. She is a very sweet girl and loves all dogs. She hasn’t met a cat up close, but showed no interest in the cat that lived outside at her former home.
She is fully vetted and ready to go. She is potty-trained and crate-trained, but will need someone who is patient to work with her on mouthing. She would do best in a home with at least one other dog as a playmate. She has a lot of energy, but will cuddle in bed with you at night.
Zara can be adopted or fostered in Arkansas or in the northeast.
Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.
Harrisburg, PA 2am Fridays
Port Jervis, NJ 5am Fridays
Southington, CT 8am Fridays
East Hartford, CT 11am Fridays

There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
