My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

NUKKUA is part of the Dreamer Litter who came south with his 4 litter mates from the Northern Manitoba community of McKenzie Island. He’s neutered, had his 3 sets of puppy vaccines including rabies, a microchip, several doses of dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. He did also come into rescue with his mum and her name is DREAM and she strongly resembles a White Husky/Samoyed mix. We have no information on dad though but he could well be a Shepherd seeing as his 3 sisters all look like one. This handsome little guy is the chillest of the litter and is very laid back and easy going. He does have an adventurous side to him as well and is always up for one. He loves his humans and will give out puppy kisses and lots of tail wags.

NUKKUA is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it all night and he’ll also go in it during the day to take a nap. He loves to go on his walks and gets excited when he has his harness put on as then he knows he’s going on one. Housetraining is going really well and he’s just about at the stage to say he’s fully trained but he doesn’t ask to go outside yet, you just have to watch for the signs that he needs to go. When he’s taken out first thing in the morning or after each meal he will do his business just about every time. He also goes outside a few times in between his meals and right before bed at night and he’ll go to the bathroom every time.
NUKKUA loves to play and chase his toys especially the chewy ones such as Nyla bones as they feel good on his teething guns. He has several dogs in his foster home and he loves to have his walks with plus run around and play with them. He also has a cat and several kittens in his foster home and he enjoys playing with them so he should do well with one in a home provided they’re dog savvy. We do also recommend a slow, monitored introduction between them and he be kept on a leash while the introductions are made. We do require children to be age 6 and up and be respectful, gentle and kind to animals. He requires a fenced yard to keep him safe when he’s outside playing.

NUKKUA is looking for an energetic family who can give him lots of walks and long hikes to help him burn off some of that puppy energy. He travels really well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two. He would love to have a fur sibling but he would do equally as well as an only pet too provided his adopters don’t leave him alone for most of the day. He’s learning his manners and will “sit” for his meals and take treats “gentle.” He is quite food motivated and still eats very fast so he uses a slow feeder and that helps to slow him down.
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him.
If NUKKUA sounds like the guy for you then please complete the adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
