Ideal situation:
– active family experience with dogs d foster or rescue person, or
other person with wide experience of dogs and dog training.
Background:
Bella is a two and a half year old Potcake from the Bahamas who has had a difficult start in life.
She was found on the streets with her 2 young pups and brought to the pound where she was scheduled to be put down and her pups to be sent to a rescue group.
Bella was rescued from the pound with her pups the next morning, and brought to Canada where she has had an amazing life! She has gone from street dog to princess pup in this past year.
Bella originally came to me as a foster and we fell in love and have a station on our hands and have to find her a new home no fault of her own.
We have her DNA test done and she is now due for her vaccines and is on heartgard.
Adopters will need to commit to an active lifestyle as Bella has the energy of a Border Collie or Aussie.
Good stuff:
She is strong and agile and would do well in dog sports.
She is very quick on the uptake in training.
She is a “people dog” and is very good and deeply sweet and affectionate with people she knows. She is shy at first and will take a little to warm up. She has come a long way with this!
She is good with dogs on a playdate, or playing in a field or in a dog park.
She loves water, loves tug and playing with a ball.
She can be left alone for several hours at a time, she is not in a crate and is potty trained.
She is a very good passenger in a car or truck and loves going for drives. (will sometimes be reactive to buses)
Management:
Bella has no bite history. Although she requires management around certain men at the dog park she gives ample warning of her concerns, and will try to sometimes use her nose and push hard to send away.
Bella will do well as a country dog or the city like she is in now.
Her on leash walks are great and LOVES them! Once she trusts her person off leash is something that she thrives for long off leash walks and hikes are her favorite thing to do.
Health:
She had a litter in late January of 2022 and her pups came to Canada as well and are adopted out.
She was spayed before coming to Canada
Steps we’re taking:
We are absolutely committed to her success, while and after we have her. She is extremely bonded with her family, and would need to get to know her new family in their home with her current owner.
