Meet Papaya, an 8-week-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix with a zest for life that is infectious! This little guy is always on the move, chasing after his favorite ball or playfully wrestling with his chew toys. His goofy side will have you laughing and his friendly nature will melt your heart. Papaya has a knack for making friends, both with humans and other dogs. He's an absolute sweetheart who loves cuddles and belly rubs. His unique coat just adds to his charm, making him irresistible! With his playful spirit and loving personality, Papaya will make a great addition to any family. He's ready to bring joy and laughter into his forever home. Prospective adopters with approved applications will be contacted to arrange a meeting.

Additional adoption info

Dogs and puppies are $150. Kittens and cats are $80. The adoption fee includes vet exam, first set of vaccines, microchipping, Feline Leukemia test for cats, Heartworm test for dogs. Also, includes rabies vaccine and spay/neuter at appropriate age. A completed and approved adoption application is required before meetings are arranged. The foster home is responsible for approving adoptions.

Adoption fairs are held monthly at PetSmart, Wilkesboro, NC.
Prospective adopters with approved applications will be contacted by the foster homes to arrange meetings.

There is a also a county-run shelter, which is not formally associated with the HSOW, but we pull fosters from there and do all we can to promote adoptions:

The Humane Society of Wilkes is an independent, 501(c)(3), volunteer organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless, unwanted, and neglected companion animals in Wilkes County, NC. We support pet owners and prospective owners with programs that promote adoption and spay/neuter and services that provide information and resources to the community.

The Humane Society of Wilkes also works closely with Wilkes County Animal Services and local veterinarians to help prevent suffering and improve the quality of life for animals in Wilkes County.
