My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.

Personality | Sophie is a gentle giant (around 75 lbs). She is a very mellow girl, but has that happy waggy tail that is characteristic of most labs. She likes to be around people, and is quite content to nap on the floor, in her bed, or on the couch. She is not crate trained, and her previous family indicated they had no issues with leaving her for hours at a time, she usually just wanted to sleep.

Sophie LOVES going on walks and likes to sniff around. She enjoys laying out on the back patio or out in the backyard, and seems to be a quiet girl with no barking or whining noticed thus far.

I wouldn't describe her as extra cuddly, as in wanting attention all the time, but she will for sure snuggle up to you if you lay down next to her, or let her lay down next to you. She loves head and back scratches.

Story | Sophie dear is a 9 year old sweetheart who was surrendered back to MHLRM from a loving family, because of unforeseen circumstances that came on quickly which required a move to help take care of immediate family and to where pets would not be allowed.

Other Dogs | Sophie was well loved by her previous family, and had the chance to be around children as well as a few other animals and did well.

Cats

Children | She has lived with children most of her life and does great with them.

Training | Sophie seems to be very treat motivated! She appears to know some basic commands. Her tail starts wagging extra hard when I go for the treat jar.

Leash | Sophie LOVES going on walks and likes to sniff around. She enjoys laying out on the back patio or out in the backyard, and seems to be a quiet girl with no barking or whining noticed thus far.

Activity Level | While Sophie is now considered a senior dog, she still is moving around well and I have not noticed anything too concerning with her thus far. She could drop a few pounds and has started a weight management diet.

Sophie would excel in a home where she gets walked frequently, and to where she is not expected to walk on hardwood floors. Rugs or carpeted floors would be ideal for her. She would like to be able to lay down around you and will come up to you from time to time in order to be recognized and to make sure you are still there and willing to give her treats.

Health Notes

Thank you!

Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
