My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog`s foster family reports --

The bustling environment of the Austin Animal Center was a bit overwhelming for Jenny, but she has since transformed beautifully in her foster home.

Child Experience:
Jenny is thriving in a foster home with children aged 6 and 10. She enjoys playing ball and having the occasional burst of zoomies, but her favorite activity is quietly following the kids around and snuggling up with them. Jenny is also a good sport when it comes to getting a pawdicure, dressing up, and lounging in the hammock.

Dog Experience:
Jenny was previously paired with another dog at the Center and has shown that she can co-exist peacefully in small spaces. In her current foster home, she lives with a large German Shepherd mix and has exhibited no signs of resource guarding. While they enjoy playing together, Jenny tends to bond more with humans than with her canine foster sibling.

Training:
Jenny is house trained and a fast learner. She mastered the “sit” command on her very first day in her foster home. She is still getting the hang of leash walking, often hesitating and stopping to sniff along the way, but she is making steady progress.
Why You’ll Love Jenny:
Jenny is a loving and adaptable companion who will bring warmth and joy to any home. Her gentle nature and quick learning ability make her an ideal pet for families or individuals looking for a devoted friend.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
