The adoption fee is waived for Quincy and ALL Desperate Housecats!

Quincy is a “shy at first” boy who is joining our Cactus Cats crew to get some feline companionship. He loves Churu and has started his confidence building clicker training, doing a great job with “nose boops”! Quincy came in with another cat, so may do well in a home with a friendly cat to help him with the transition. He may need some time and patience to adapt to new people, but once he warms up to you he’s very affectionate and will lean into those pets. Quincy is FIV+, which is no big deal, it just means he should have an indoor (or safe catio) life and get medical attention if he ever needs it, just like any other cat. FIV cats can live with other cats without the worry of spreading FIV as long as the house is harmonious. Quincy is ready for a loving foster or adopter today!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
