My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful and quirky girl is ready to find her forever home! Meet Audrey  Audrey is the most special of special needs cats and she has had a very long road to be ready for adoption. It is finally her time and she is looking for an equally special adopter who is committed to continuing her diet and medication regimen to keep her sensitive little tummy happy!

Let me tell you first why you should take a chance on Audrey. When she came into foster care, she was skinny, had low energy, and was withdrawn. But, boy, has she blossomed! Audrey is maybe the most unique cat in the history of cats. She likes to spend her day walking around the room rubbing her face on everything in sight - her scratching post, her toys, anything! She loves cat nip toys (particularly the Yeowww brand rainbow from Chewy) but she doesn’t play like a normal cat, she just likes to lick the toy repeatedly. Audrey is the BEST reading buddy and curls up next to her foster mom to get head scratches while they read. Together, they have read over 10 books so that equals a lot of head scratches!!! Audrey is a talker and has quite the meow. She is also a big purrer! Experts say that Audrey is a bengal cat but she’s got long legs like a deer and the face of a baby kangaroo. The only thing we can confirm is that she is 100% a good girl.

Now for what makes Audrey special needs. Audrey was returned to Murci’s Mission as she was suffering with chronic diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss. After an ultrasound, blood work, allergy testing, and trial and error with her diet, we have come to the conclusion that she has inflammation in her colon and has IBD. We have gotten her on a diet that works for her (Fancy feast salmon pate) and a probiotic packet and she takes a low dose prednisone and B12 pill daily. Her stools are solid and her personality has opened up now that she feels good. Audrey is very good about using her litterbox. Occasionally, with a stressful event or if she gets into food that she shouldn’t have, she will have a flare up which can lead to an accident outside of the box. Her symptoms have improved remarkably and her accidents are less than once a month. She takes a higher dose of her steroid when this happens and is improved within a day or two.

If you are interested in adopting Audrey, please send in an application. Her adoption fee is $50 but she will come with all of her medical records and the rest of her food. Audrey has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and is up-to-date on vaccinations.

Audrey would do best in a quiet, low stress environment. She would need a patient adopter who is willing to give her time to adjust. Audrey is so deserving of a home and family that loves her!

More about this rescue

From the day we could talk we told our pets more than we ever told our parents. We took the long route to see the kitty in the window down the street. We stopped even when we were late to pet the dog. We grew up and we saw what the world does to those who can't defend themselves. We are here to change that.

Ethical rescue, including fully vetting every animal and carefully placing them all into homes matched to their physical and mental needs is what we do.

Respecting all life, both animal and human, while retaining an underlying goal of keeping animals in their homes. and fostering a sense of community between local shelters and rescues is how we do it.
