My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fortuna and Formaggio are an adorable pair of 5-month-old kittens looking for their forever home.

Fortuna and her brother Formaggio, had a rough start to life. They were thrown away in a dumpster and left to fend for themselves. When found, Formaggio was in much worse condition than Fortuna. Due to this scary start in life both Fortuna and Formaggio have a tough time trusting strangers right off the bat. They will require time to adapt to their new environment and slowly build a bond with their future human. Future owners should have experience with skittish cats.

Fortuna loves to sunbathe and lounge around the house. She also loves to play with her brother and any form of toy. She’s great with “quiet time.” Formaggio is a goofy, spunky and lovable guy. He loves getting into mischief with his foster sibling. He is bold and is willing to try new things. He loves playing rough with his sister and the dogs. His small size does not stop him from playing. He is willing to play with anyone and anything.

This sweet duo currently live in a house with 3 other cats (3, 5, and 12 years-old), and 2 dogs (1 Dachshund mix and 1 Pitbull mix). Because of the pair’s reserved nature they would do best in a quiet home that can take the time to show them that the world isn’t such a scary place. Due to their past, they are still warming up to the idea of physical affection. They prefer to be near their humans, but are not quite at the point where they are comfortable with touching. This may change with time but currently they prefer to remain in control and have their own space.

If you are patient and have a soft spot for helping kittens grow into the best and most confident versions of themselves, this team might be perfect for you. They really just need a home that is dedicated to providing them with time and space to trust. Apply below to learn more about Fortuna and Formaggio!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
