My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vander is a 4-year-old, loving and playful cat looking for his forever home!

This sweet creamsicle dude loves to be around people and will often seek his humans out. He likes to prop himself on their laps and just rest there for a bit. In the mornings he’ll often wait till he’s noticed you’ve woken up and come right on over to you for some pets and a cuddle. I mean hey, we can't blame him though, whho doesn't prefer to start their day in a warm and cozy cuddle puddle?

During the day while his humans are busy working, he likes to spend lots of time up high in the cat tree just sunbathing and taking naps. He's an athletic dude that loves to climb or jump onto higher surfaces. He enjoys the panoramic view and is a professional at keeping tabs on the humans from above. He’s also a playful guy who can sometimes be found rolling around on the floor into his cat tunnels. He makes his humans laugh and smile with his silly playing antics. If you can't find Vander up high in his tree, down low in his tunnel, or right on your lap, the next best bet is in the laundry hamper. This silly dude loves to burrow, and if you dig deep enough you'll usually find him very comfortably buried under a pile of laundry.

Vander has a medium energy level on most days. He likes to chase and pounce on throw toys, especially when he’s already zooming about. He'll give you extra brownie bonus points if they have catnip - that stuff is the best! When he’s not playing, he likes to just lounge with the humans.

Vander currently lives in an apartment with 4 humans. While we haven’t seen him interact with either in foster care, he could be good with calm, cat savvy cats or dogs with proper introductions. He will at times communicate with his teeth, so older kids or no kids in his home would be best. His ideal home would be one where he could get a good amount of attention. He’s an affectionate boy that like to be near his humans.

Vander may have flare ups of colitis from time to time, but, the best way to keep this at bay is to keep him on the prescription diet he’s on now.

Vander is FIV+, but that doesn’t mean he can’t live a long, normal, and healthy life! Cats with FIV commonly have average lifespans. Because FIV is spread only through deep bite wounds, FIV positive cats are able to live with FIV negative cats in stable social environments. You can read more about FIV here: https://tinyurl.com/58sf9wtj. Vander may have flare ups of colitis from time to time, but, the best way to keep this at bay is to keep him on the prescription diet he’s on now.

If you are looking for a sweet, affectionate cat to add to you home then consider Vander!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
