Comadre was spotted on the grounds of a cat rescue in Brawley; since she was cautious of people at the time, she was trapped and spayed and then released to be watched over as a community cat rather an adoptable one. However, a few weeks later Comadre started limping and the rescue workers were concerned. They trapped her again and got her to a vet where it was discovered she had broken the head of her femur. The small organization raised the funds for her surgery and as she was healing with wound care and cage rest they realized that Comadre was not feral at all, she just needed some time to adjust to new people and circumstances. When she was healed, Comadre joined the other cats in the rescue and quickly made friends with them. However, being out in the desert means limited adoption opportunities, and when The Rescue House had openings, we took in several of their cats who had been waiting a long time.
Comadre has completely rehabilitated into a socialized and loving kitty who likes to talk and converse and demand pets! Her old injury doesn't seem to bother her at all. She can seem reserved at first but she actually loves to be petted and carried. When you carry her, Comadre will lay her head on your chest... it's so adorable! Comadre does like to assess her situation at first before she feels comfortable, so she appreciates when she is given some time to adjust without being pressured. She'll come out on her own when she gets settled and then is the sweetest kitty ever.
Comadre likes other cats and will head-butt them. We think she'd be happiest having a kitty friend though could also be fine as a single cat. She is okay with cat-friendly dogs. She would do best in a quieter home without young children; calm older kids who will understand and respect her adjustment desires would likely be fine.
Comadre is a darling. Will she melt your heart?
While healthy, Comadre has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a type of virus that typically causes some weakening of a cat's immune system. It is a cat-only virus and cannot be spread through casual friendly contact between cats. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives in quality, duration, and happiness. A good informative website is FIVCats.com.
