Sweetie von Schondra is a beautiful, 3-year-old German Shepherd. As Sweetie’s name implies, she is as sweet and loving as can be. Whether with people or other dogs, she brings a mellow energy, is very kindhearted and always open to new adventures. Sweetie does fall on the shyer side but, once you get to know her, she warms up to you easily and it will be like you’re long-lost friends. Sweetie enjoys mingling with other dogs and gravitates towards the more easygoing ones like herself, both on and off the leash. We should also mention that her leash manners are superb, and she’s perfected the art of how to sit on command too, which she’d like to know she’ll accept congratulatory ear rubs for anytime. Sweetie can’t wait to find her forever home, and we have hope that the perfect one is out there for her right now.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
