Spice is a 2 year old Miniature Schnauzer x Maltese mix who is ready to sprinkle love and cuddles all over your life! Mama Spice arrived at our rescue with her babies who quickly overtook this petite gal in size. Poor Mama and whichever neighborhood Dad she found love with. Now that the babies are ready for adoption, Spice can’t wait to find a home of her very own. This little gal has fabulous ears, a petite little body, a sunny outlook on life, and a personality absolutely bursting at the seams! While she has a hair coat, she is not an option for those with allergies as she does shed. Ready for a life of sugar and spice? Adopt Spice today!

Spice is a sweet and loving lady who is as adorable as she is fabulous! She is a huge cuddler. Her main goal in life would be in your arms 24/7 as you hold her like a baby. All Spice wants is a life by your side, following you from room to room as she watches what you get up to. Once you settle in, she finds the comfiest spot in the room and snoozes. She takes any and every chance to get pets and cuddles, curling on your lap and giving you sweet kisses. She is the perfect size for a brunch date or a trip to the coffee shop for a pup cup. Everyone you meet will coo over her, so prepare to make new friends wherever you go! Spice loves zooming around on the beach with her tail wagging at the speed of light. She sometimes plays with her foster siblings but seems to be more of a lounger than a toy-driven dog. The cutest thing Spice does? Dragging her blankets around the house as she looks for the best nap spot. What a total charmer!

Spice starts her morning with a walk on the beach with her foster siblings around 7 AM. She comes inside for an 8 AM breakfast followed by a well-deserved treat. She spends her day lounging around the house in her dog bed or on the couch with her siblings. She also loves following her foster mom around the house as well, hoping for dropped snacks or extra cuddles! She goes for an evening walk at 5 PM along the beach as the sun sets, coming inside for dinner around 6 PM. In the evening, she hangs out in the living room with her foster parents as they unwind from the day. Once she goes out for one last potty, she heads to her dog bed for the night.

Spice gets along well with dogs of all sizes, big and small. She also gets along with the resident cat, who is bigger than her. She loves meeting new people as well! Spice walks well on the leash and greets the neighborhood pups politely. She is working on her house training and crate training and is making great progress. Spice’s dream family is one ready to cuddle her and make her the center of their world. If you’re looking for a lap dog, you’ve met your match! Pick up your dream Spice today!

Week 1: Initial Assessment of Foster Dog (on first few days):

I picked up Spice on 8/27 with my dad from her previous foster family, and during the car ride home, she didn't make any noise at all. Spice seemed super adorable but a little shy. Spice is very quiet and only whines when she wants to be let inside the house from a backyard potty break or out of her crate. Spice walks well on a leash when I take her for walks and barely pulls at all, although she always seems very curious about the world and almost as if she is searching for something.

Week 2: Training assessment and goals for the next week:

Spice learned 'sit' after two days, and she picked up on 'leave it' right away. She also learned stay very quickly. She seemed a bit reluctant to go into her crate on command so I plan on working with her more and positively reinforcing going into the crate. She likes to sleep in her crate in the evening and will go there herself when tired, just not on command.

Week 3:

I mainly worked on crate training Spice on command and rewarding her for going into her crate. I also reinforced 'sit' and 'stay' as she seemed to be forgetting them. My training goal for next week is a safety training one -- Spice has a bad habit of rushing out of the door when she sees someone new or someone she likes, so I am hoping to correct that.

Spice is an option for homes with prior dog-owning experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 due to her small size.
