My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Verde & Meleys are a gorgeous pair of bonded kitten friends. They love to play around with crinkle balls, bird feathers, ball towers, crunched up paper and even tennis balls.

Meleys couldn’t be more different than her fire-breathing dragon namesake. A demure and elegant white and gray tabby girl, Meleys strides with a regal ballet dancer’s gait. As Meleys has gotten more sure of herself she’s revealed a passionate heart craving for love. While still careful to assess a situation before committing, she now leans into getting long pets and cheek rubs. She wants fervently to connect with her human friends. She is consistently interested in what her human friends are up to: greets them on arrival, hangs around while they watch TV, and keeps them company while they work or make dinner. Her favorite time is bedtime when she looks for a warm nook on the bed to cuddle in.

Verde is a gray tabby with a white face, belly, and feet. He has one eye, and like every pirate, loves adventures and rumbling with his mateys. Intrigued with humans and kittens alike, Verde bounds to greet his human friends when they arrive home and eagerly climbs on their laps (and laptops) for snuggles and work consults. Verde, a clear extravert, seeks out human company and is the first of his kitten gang to cuddle up close. He continues to be loving, fearless, curious, and friendly with cats and humans alike. He loves to cuddle up and is passionate about chasing feather toys and anything he can chase, catch, and carry. Totally interactive and fun.

Verde and Melys are excellent feline citizens, adept at A-plus grooming and litter box habits. They can be mixed and matched with littermates Balerion and Syrax as they are all equally bonded.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
