My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

INDI is available!

24-055 Indi is a 4-year-old spayed female Golden Doodle.  She is described as having good energy, a sweet disposition and loves to be with her humans.  Indi has had some basic obedience training but does not like other dogs. She must be adopted to an only dog home at this point.

AGR wants Indi to succeed and be the best companion she can be. Once she is adopted, we will pay for a two or three week training program at Partners Dog Training School, or other acceptable facility, to work with Indi's issues with other dogs. Indi's new family must be willing to attend the prepaid follow-up classes. There will be no cost to the adopter for this extra training.

If you are interested in adopting this dog or any other available AGR dogs, and want to know more about the process, please click here.  Note:  WE DO NOT ADOPT OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF ARIZONA. All potential fosters and adopters must fill out an application, pay an application fee and have a home visit in order to be considered for any dog.

Adoption Process - Getting Started
The first step in adopting a rescued Golden from AGR is to submit an Online Adoption Application. The application must be completed in full. We ask many questions in order to match a dog to your lifestyle and family routine. Note that there is a $25 adoption application fee required in order to process your application (information regarding payment of this is at the bottom of the online application).

Your application will be reviewed by our Home Evaluation Coordinator, who will then assign a Home Evaluator to conduct a telephone interview and arrange to visit you in your home. Our list of available dogs changes weekly, ensuring that you will soon meet your new Golden companion.

Our adoption fees are based upon the Golden’s age.

Puppies up to 2 years of age are $500
Dogs 2 - 5 years of age are $475
Dogs between 5 and 9 are $450
Dogs over 9 years of age are $400.
If a pair is adopted, the cost will be the full fee for the younger dog and half-fee for the other/older dog.
When AGR takes a Golden into rescue, we incur veterinary costs. Sometimes these costs are minimal, as when only a general physical is done. In other cases we have significant medical expenses. Adoption fees by themselves never cover all our expenses with rescued dogs. The average cost of veterinary services has run between $1,800 and $2,100 per dog.

Go meet their pets

All of our Goldens are preferably fostered in members’ homes. Although, due to a shortage of available fosters, we sometimes have to use a local boarding facility.

Sometimes arrangements can be made through our Placement Manager to meet with the family that is fostering a particular dog. You must have already submitted an adoption application and that application approved following a phone interview and home evaluation in order to arrange to see a particular adoptable dog.

We also occasionally have Meet-and-Greet events at local venues. Due to our rigorous placement process we rarely bring adoptable dogs to local events or pet supply stores.

To view upcoming events, go to our webpage and select the events tab

More about this rescue

Arizona Golden Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is to rescue displaced Golden Retrievers and mostly-Golden mixes that may have been abused, abandoned, neglected or unwanted or surrendered by their owners due to previously unforeseen circumstances, and find new, permanent homes for them. Rescued dogs are given a complete veterinary exam and their vaccines are updated; they are also microchipped, spayed or neutered, and tested for valley fever and heartworm. AGR provides emotional and medical rehabilitation and will pay for medications and for necessary surgeries. Through education at public appearances, AGR seeks to educate the public about the Golden Retriever breed and about responsible dog ownership, in order to help reduce the unwanted dog population.
