My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella is an adorable Shepherd mix found as a stray with her 5 puppies, and has since been spayed. Bella was just hours away from euthanasia at her prior shelter simply due to lack of space, but thanks to the efforts of caring advocates, we were able to get to her just in time. Bella is thriving and ready to share her love with a deserving family.

Personality: Bella is a medium energy dog, meaning that she's happy to romp around and play or spend the day snuggled up. She gets along wonderfully with dogs of all ages and sizes, and she absolutely adores people. She has lived with 3 cats before and was able to co-exist totally fine together. We would not recommend leaving her alone unsupervised with cats as she seemed a little too interested in them and could be that she's just eager to play or that her prey drive is kicking in. As long as humans are around to supervise, she's ok with them. She has lived with kids 13+ and did great. She has a very calm and stable temperment overall and we think she would be ok with younger kids as long as they understand and respect basic manners around any dog.

The perfect forever family: Bella has bounced around from place to place before coming to us at Thrive, which has likely caused some understandable anxiety. She needs someone who is committed to her and will show her that you're not abandoning her. She would do great in a two adult household with someone who works from home to be nearby at most times, and a doggie companion, while she's working through her anxiety.

Bella has been with us waiting for her forever home since August 2024. She is in a loving foster home until she finds her family who is ready to pour love into her sweet soul.

More about this rescue

Thrive Animal Rescue is the brainchild of Cece Durante Bloum and Georgia Spogli. Cece, a lifelong animal lover, equestrian and founder of Newmarket Equestrian Center, sought a way to incorporate her love for animals with her desire to give back to the community. Being a dog lover first and foremost, Cece began finding dogs in shelters for friends who wanted to adopt but could not bear the heartache of searching through shelters to find the right match. Cece realized that shelters are filled with dogs who have been abandoned for reasons having nothing to do with serious health or behavioral issues. Georgia had completed similar rescue work on the East Coast and successfully placed several dogs in the loving homes of friends and associates in the equestrian world. Georgia felt a calling to do more and joined forces with Cece in 2014. They recruited more dog loving friends from the equestrian world, applied for non-profit status, and Thrive Animal Rescue was born!

Thrive continues to carry out its mission to rescue family friendly dogs from abandonment and shelters and place them in loving forever homes. Additionally, it is our goal to educate adopters on the importance of their commitment to their new furry family member. We consider suitability a vital part of the process of placing a dog in a loving forever home and believe this diminishes the likelihood that a dog will become displaced or rehomed again, thereby reducing the number of viable dogs being euthanized.
