Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

■ Our adoption program is for individuals and families seeking a pet to live indoors and provide companionship.
■ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt an animal.
■ We recommend that all household members meet the animal during the adoption process. In some cases, we will make this a requirement.
■ If you rent or lease your home, we require written or verbal approval from your landlord before you adopt a pet.
■ If you currently own animals, making sure your pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and care can help expedite the adoption process.
■ All cats, dogs and rabbits will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
■ Animals must be taken to a veterinarian for a health exam within one week after adoption.
■ If you are in the process of moving, we recommend you delay adoption of an adult cat or dog until after you are settled in your new home.
■ We do not adopt animals as gifts or presents.
■ If you are interested in adopting a large dog (over 40 pounds), we suggest a fenced-in yard.
■ If, at any time, you can no longer care for your pet, you are welcome to return the pet to CCHS.
■ CCHS reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
■ It is the law in Champaign-Urbana and in most outlying townships in East Central Illinois that dogs be either confined or on a leash at all times.

Adoption Fees:

■ Dogs: $115 and up
■ Puppies: $175 and up
■ Cats (5 months to 10 years): $75 and up
■ Cats (10 years and older): $40 and up
■ Kittens under five months of age: $125 and up
■ Rabbits: $40
■ Guinea pigs: $25
■ Other small mammals, exotics, and birds: Prices range from $5 - $125.
