Approximate DOB 2/12/2024

Approximate Adult Size - Small (12 lbs)

History- We saw a post on FB from another rescue down south that they were dealing with a hoarding situation and needed help from other rescues t take some of the dogs in. Since we had just brought in 7 I really didn't have the space so I didn't respond. But I went to bed thinking about these dogs and asked God for a sign how I could help. Crazy! That morning I woke up to a text -  our boarding kennel had a cancellation so I pretty much took it as a sign. I messaged the other rescue still hoping that all the dogs had found rescues to accept them. Sadly the rescue replied that all the local rescues were full but some were able to squeeze a few in but they were reaching out to surrounding out of state rescues for assistance. I told them if all else fails we could take 4-5 if they had no other options. Well, they responded that they had a bunch left so we agreed for them to send some up on transport. That weekend Kimber, Jessie, Max, and Bandit made their way to us. Luckily another rescuer was at the transport also receiving dogs from the same case and he offered to help me move mine from the transporters crates to mine as mine were older dogs and more of a flight risk if they got loose. So here they are we made it home and we've been working with them on socialization. They get their medical this Friday and then will be looking for their happily ever afters.

Temperament- Still a little shy when meeting new people but overall he is super sweet, loves attention, and is very playful. He was the youngest one we took from the hoarding case and so at only 6 months old he made progress really fast and is loving attention and playtime.

Energy Level- This sweet guy is a ball of energy who wants nothing more than to sit with his loved one for cuddles and kisses. He loves his toys and is just the happiest puppy ever. Please keep in mind all puppies no matter how sweet and quiet and mellow still need time, love, training, and playtime to burn energy and be the best puppies they can be. If you are not prepared for sharp nails and teeth and a lot of training, messes, and work then please consider an adult dog who is already trained.

Dogs/Cats- Loves all the other dogs and will be meeting the cats soon

Housetrained- He is currently using a dog door perfectly to go out to do his business. However, we are recommending that whoever adopts him continue monitoring him closely. Crating, leashed to you, and/or use of a belly band whenever you are not able to watch him is highly recommended until he knows the rules in the new home. We also recommend a home with no other male dogs as this can start a peeing contest.

This little guy is super cute and I believe he will be adopted quickly. He is just such a cute, sweet, happy boy full of joy and love. He would love a home of his own that can catch him up on the love and attention he never got as a baby. He loves fetch and toys and love and giving kisses so we do believe that he will make an absolutely wonderful addition to any family that wants a baby to love and spoil. Max is very treat motivated and wants nothing more than to have someone to play with and love.

Adoption fee $300 includes neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need.

Send us an e-mail to adopt@almosthomenm.org requesting an application to adopt this sweetie!!

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail us at adopt@almosthomenm.org

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.

More about this rescue

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.
