My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Luca, the distinguished senior cat with a taste for the finer things in life. With a wise demeanor and a penchant for relaxation, Luca is on the lookout for a space of his own—a cozy “apartment” where he can truly call home. This refined gentleman enjoys his private litter box, a selection of toys to keep his sharp claws entertained, and, of course, his loving family close by for snuggles and the occasional treat.
Luca is an indoor cat through and through, and his favorite spots include his cushy bed, cozy cat tree, and the screened-in porch where he can watch the world go by. Luca’s idea of a perfect day includes a good brush, snuggling with his humans, and plenty of time to unwind in his peaceful surroundings.
With only three legs and a bit of arthritis in his back leg (which he bravely manages with monthly injections), Luca has truly mastered the art of living life to the fullest. This little warrior may move at his own pace, but he’s always up for some fun—just check out the video to see him in action! Luca is looking for a family who will offer patience, understanding, and lots of love as he enjoys his golden years. If you think you can give Luca the comfy, loving home he deserves, please reach out and learn more about this amazing kitty. He’s waiting to meet you!

All adoptions come with 30 days of free behavioral support from Petcademy. All cats available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and are current on all vaccinations. Please email cats@henricohumane.org for more information.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Since animals live in foster homes, we get to know their personality and temperament. The adoption process allows us to learn about you, so that we can help find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION PROCESS

After finding a cat or dog that you are interested in, you'll need to complete an adoption application either online (https://henricohumane.org) or at an adoption stand. An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you.

ADOPTION FEES:
All of our adoption fee amounts can be found here:
https://www.henricohumane.org/adopt

The adoption fee covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter, microchipping and worm/flea treatments.

Go meet their pets

Adoption stands are held on Saturdays at Petco Short Pump (Next to Trader Joe's) minus major holiday weekends. Adoption stands are from 11-2 but please see our stand schedule for up to date information. (https://henricohumane.org/events/).

Please note that not all animals come to stand so if you are interested in a specific animal, please email dogs@henricohumane.org or cats@henricohumane.org on the Friday prior to stand. Thank you!

More about this rescue

Henrico Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-based,
non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from
across Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever
homes.

HHS has saved hundreds of animals each year since
1991. Many of the dogs and cats we rescue come from
shelters in rural areas where they have fewer adoption
opportunities. The majority of the animals in our care live
with foster parents until they find a permanent home.

We don't have a shelter and most of our animals live in foster homes until they're adopted, which allows us to get to know their personality and temperament. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Our adoption process allows us to learn about potential adopters so we can help find the perfect matcher their home.
