Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dixie came to us as an owner surrender. She has, apparently, been in a couple of homes. From our understanding, her initial family gave her to the family who surrendered her to us because they had been displaced from the Hurricane (Debbie) and were no longer able to care for Dixie. The family they placed her with had a small dog and were living in an RV. They worked and said Dixie was just too much for them. If we didn't take her, she was going to go to the pound. Dixie is an awesome dog and very much wants to be with her people. She is a chocolate labradoodle (lab and poodle mix) who is just under a year old. She is very well behaved in the house and walks on a leash, although she does pull at times so a harness is recommended. She will heel though once she knows that you don't want her pulling and she can walk nicely beside you. With some training, she could be a great therapy dog. Dixie is very friendly with other pets. She loves to go outside and play with them. She is able to jump a low fence but as long as she has what she needs on the right side of it,she doesn't really try to get out. She is great with kids too. I'm pretty sure we were told that she was OK with cats but we do not have any to test her with. Smart, slow introductions would be best to re-accustom her to felines. Dixie is crate trained and has been housebroken at our house, however we never guarantee that any of our dogs will be housebroken once they go into a new home. They have to learn your routine and schedule so expect that accidents may happen.Dixie rode well to the vet. She can be alittle nervous when first in new situations but she overcomes that very quickly. She is very much a velcro type dog so she would love someone who can be home with her most of the time and who loves to spend time with their dog, taking trips and outings with them and doing various dog-friendly activities. She hasn't been destructive when left alone but she has other dogs at our house to keep her company.Dixie is really a nearly perfect dog and will fit easily into most home and family environments.
Dixie saw the vet on 8/23/24 and was found to have no issues on her exam. She also tested negative on her heartworm test and fecal. She has been on Simparica Trio monthly for flea control and heartworm prevention. Dixie weighed 53.6 pounds as of 8/23/24.
If interested in giving Dixie her forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Dixie's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of her vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Dixie based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for her, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
