My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dear Adopter,

Keisha is the biggest snuggle bug you’ll ever meet! She is a 40-pound lap dog whose love language is cuddling, and her favorite thing in the world is spending quality time with her human(s). While Keisha can be timid and uncertain around unfamiliar people and may take some time to come out of her shell, once she knows that she’s safe with you, she loves very deeply, showers you with affection, and shows how incredibly sweet she is.

Keisha’s energy level is medium. She is very playful and enjoys fetch (as well as any game that involves squeaky plush toys!), but she’s also perfectly happy to lounge around the living room or nap for hours at a time. She is a fantastic apartment dog—she never barks (even around our very loud neighbor-dogs) and is totally nondestructive (except for with toys!). She does phenomenally well when left at home alone for several hours at a time and will nap quietly until you return. While she did not appear to be house-trained by the time she came to us, she goes potty outdoors these days with very few indoor accidents. She knows the commands “come” and “sit” and is currently working on “down,” “leave it,” and “shake.” She is also making strides with her leash manners (not tugging while on leashed walks).

Keisha is not human- or dog-reactive, although she does appear to be afraid of other dogs (she will generally tuck her tail and cower during interactions with dogs). We have no information on how she would behave around cats or other small household pets. She struggles with some anxiety and can be easily startled by rapid and/or unpredictable movements, so she would likely need a household without young children. She can also be possessive of her toys and food, although these behaviors have decreased significantly as she’s gotten more comfortable with us and because we work on them with her. She has interacted with a 14-year-old on one occasion and absolutely adored him, so she may do well with older kids who are able to read her body language and respect her boundaries.

Keisha has cuddled and wiggled her way into our hearts and we have grown to love her so much. She would add a ton of joy, warmth, and snuggles to someone’s life and is so deserving of a loving forever home!

Sincerely,
Her Foster Mom

+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.
