My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 2 years old

Gender: Female

Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix

Weight: 35 lbs

Personality: Shawnee is an absolute cuddle bug. She loves sitting on your lap, nuzzling into your armpit and getting pets. She also LOVES playing with stuffed animals and gifting them to her hoomans. She has a medium amount of energy, typically being playful in the morning but chill the rest of the day. As she’s come out of her shell, she’s begun to love to play with her foster sister as well. However, it’s important to note that she will require several days of easing into relationships with new dogs, meaning slow intros with lots of pack walks. She does have dog friends! She also loves enrichment toys. Her ruff past makes her a better fit for having a lady around. She can be with men, but they should not force her out of her kennel or to go anywhere she doesnt want, and should give her space and respect.

Education: Bathroom and leash trained. Doesn't love the crate.

Favorite Activities: Walks, playing fetch, cuddling, playing with stuffed toys

Looking for: A home with a female, and slow intro with males who will respect her space, with no kids or cats. Dogs are fine if given the necessary time to intro and decompress. She likes people with calm energy that move slow with her. People that can read her signals and give her space when she wants it. She is very loyal, has great recall, and loves hard. She will be an amazing companion for someone. She is super silly and goofy and will make you laugh with her quirky personality. She can be reactive on walks so someone who can help redirect her focus. She is treat motivated so she is trainable. She has been prescribed anxiety meds for stressful situations but she doesn't need them that often. She has been through a lot and deserves all of the love and someone who will make her feel safe. She would be a great companion for someone with a chill life who doesn't have too many visitors. Someone who will advocate for her space and help her continue to trust the world. She is low to medium energy so doesn't need much activity.

Special needs: She takes joint supplements to help with a healed injury.

Adoption Fee: $ 400

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
