My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ozzie is being fostered in Salem, WI

Ozzie is an energetic, approximately 3-4 year old, 60-pound black tri bob tail Australian Shepherd boy. He has the freckliest face and a never ending smile. Oz isn’t just handsome, he’s a happy, energetic, loving and a goofy boy. Oz loves to be wherever the people are, whether inside or outside. Once you start petting, he flops right over! He also enjoys playing with a big herding ball!

He is still learning basic commands. Oz has quite the jumps, which makes him very athletic.  As athletic as he is. He is currently on exercise restrictions as he tested positive for heartworm in May. He is currently be treated for heartworm and on the road to being a fully healthy pup.  Oz has good house manners. He does well in his crate and sleeps in it at night. He also has his own room with a crate that he goes into while his fosters are out as he sometimes likes to countersurf.

He is still working on perfect recall and needs continued work in this area. He does good walking on a leash and riding in cars. Ozzie would strive best in someone who is active and stimulating. Oz likes attention as if he’s always ready to be loved. He is ready for someone to play and be just as energetic as he is.  He could be an only dog in a home and he could have a 4 legged friend or two, as long as he has a human to love on, he will be happy.

Oz has been around cats, chickens and all sizes of dogs and hasn’t had any issues. He seems to just be more interested in people!

What is Ozzie seeking in his Forever Home?

  • Ozzie’s person(s) should be active, have similar breed experience

  • They will patiently let him adjust to his new home

  • They see continued training and a lifetime of engaging their dog as a natural part of having a canine family member.

  • Ozzie prefers a physically fenced yard.

  • He would welcome another dog of any size.

  • Ozzie will be available in early October for adoption.

Does this handsome boy make you want to snuggle? The first step is to fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.)  Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a Happy Forever.

Ozzie is UTD on vaccines, negative for all tick borne diseases although he came to us positive for Lyme and Heartworm and was treated, microchipped and neutered. He is receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  He will require being on monthly Heartworm prevention for the rest of his life.  Proof of heartworm for any current or prior pets is required to adopt from our rescue.  If you are interested in Ozzie, please apply here:

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
