My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Maggie! I am an amazing snuggle bug and can't wait to be your new best friend.

Activities: I play hard and sleep even harder! My days are spent curled up in my dog bed or blanket, lazing in the sun or playing with my sister. I can never have enough rawhide chews and will play fetch until I pass out! I have been known to steal most of the dog toys and keep a pile of them near me. Car rides are my thing, and I've been known to travel long distances, falling asleep quickly. When it's not super hot, I'll go for a decent walk with my humans and can keep a pretty good pace.

Downtime: I sleep, curled up in my bed next to mom's desk while she works or will chew my rawhide until I fall asleep. I love snuggling on the couch to watch TV or nap with my humans. Occasionally, I'll watch a little dog TV on YouTube. The crate is my happy little
dog cave, and I will jump right in when you tell me to "go to bed or "place.

Temperament: I'm a little reserved until I get to know you but will soon give lots of kisses and love. Loud, booming voices will upset me, and I prefer my humans to be on the quiet, chill side of life. Small kids make me nervous, so it's best to be around teenagers. I will follow my favorite human around the house.

Other animals : I've never been around cats, but I bet I'd like them if they're nice to me. I don't have a lot of experience with large dogs, so an introduction is important before I go home with you. I have a sister who is the same size as me and is a few years older than me. We zoom and roll all over the place.

Maggie/Lily is a Female Dachshund Mix that we estimate to be born around 7/1/2022 and weighs 14 lbs.

More about this rescue

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012.

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHPP, bordetella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.
