My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster notes are in on Mingus!

Mingus "Gus" is a very good boy. He has been with me for 6 days. He becomes your little shadow and follows you everywhere but not under foot. I have a fear of tripping over him, but it was not an issue with him. He is a dream to walk on a leash and loves walks. He has no reaction to other dogs and gives my cat a wide berth. He is an explorer and tracker in the yard. He comes when called and knows his name. He lets me know when he needs to go out (he stares at me) and takes care of business very quickly. He makes no effort to get out of the yard and is usually within sight of us. He is not hyperactive. Does not seem to have interest in toys. Loves to cover himself with a blanket so I leave one on the dog beds. Loves his head and chin scratched but it took a few days before I could scratch his back. Hardly ever gets on furniture and seems to like the floor level better. However, he jumps on the bed which is higher so I think it is a preference not that he can't jump. He rides in the car great in his carrier but will not jump into the car. I have to set the crate on the ground, and he goes right in. He takes a little patience at first, but he is not hard to have around. He is going to make someone very happy once they become his person. I sure hope he finds his family very soon.

More about this shelter

Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County, HSIMC, is a non-profit animal rescue and adoption center. Our team is dedicated to rescuing and placing abandoned and displaced animals into loving homes.

As a 501(c)(3), we receive no government funding and rely heavily on our community of supporters, grants, and fundraising.

We are located in Redwood Valley and hope you come visit us and the animals in our care. We also have many volunteer opportunities and invite you to join our team!

Volunteer orientation occurs the first Thursday and last Sunday of each month at 11am. Please check in at the front office, no appointment necessary. The orientation lasts about 45 minutes and anyone interested in dog walking can sign up for a 1:1 dog walking orientation with a senior volunteer or staff member. Our volunteers are welcome to volunteer anytime during open hours.

We hope to see you soon!
