My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. Those emails will get the quickest response, we do the best we can, but if we have to follow up with an email asking you about yourself and waiting for a response, well, we have already moved on to the next email that has provided the details. We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too!

What a journey this little guy has been on in the course of his 4-5 months on this earth! Well, a heck of a lot more than any pup should have to go thru, but a sad truth for so many dogs and cats that are in the rescue system. Andy is one of the lucky ones, he is safe thanks to a caring family miles and miles from here.

There is a family that lives on the outskirts of a Missouri town that is a hot bed for those that want to dump their dogs. This kind family joined a rescue group to help so many dogs that needed help. Andy was one of those. They found him alone, hungry and eating some road kill on the side of a gravel road. They took him in, fed him and got him to the vet and nursed him back to health. Andy was living with a loving family with young kids and learning basic skills as well as learning what the good life is all about.

Their love for Andy shows. He is the sweetest, most adorable and lovable little guy you will ever meet. His little nub tail is all wiggles, and as much as he loves to be rough and tumble with his dog pals, he is equally happy to smother his people with kisses! Andy is a gentle soul, he is all puppy, but he has this side to him that is calm and serene beyond his years(months).

Of course we are not sure of his breed(s) given that he was a stray. There are apps that can point us in the right direction, so it is truly a guess. He may be part Mountain Cur, lab, ?? We don't really know, but we think our guess is pretty good. Andy seems like he will be more of a medium sized dog, he does not have a big stocky body. But, he also needs to fill in some more and perhaps have a growth spurt with a now healthy and consistent diet. He is looking for a loving, active home. Being a young and active pup he will not do well with long hours alone. A fenced yard, a couple kids and maybe another dog or two would be great!! His adoption fee is $350. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an online application on our website, sparrowdogs.com. Requirements vary as per the individual dog's needs as far as time alone, children, other pets, fenced yard vs. leash walking and such. Our adoption donations can range from $99 for less adoptable/older dogs, and higher for puppies and other highly sought after dogs(which helps us take in needy often medically challenged dogs and cats.)
Our contract states we have the right to visit the dog, check up periodically as well as take the dog back if necessary. We get first right to the dog if adopter chooses not to keep him. We want all adopters to realize this is a serious commitment and want our dogs to go to safe, loving homes.

Go meet their pets

We periodically have adoption events, check out our website for more info! But-most of our adoption do occur at our foster home where we feel the dog or cat will be much more relaxed and the adoptive family will be able to get a better idea of the dog/cats temperament.

More about this rescue

All of our pets are in foster homes, from Sheridan to Chicago, IL We take in many special needs dogs, some physically, mentally or behaviorally challenged. Some of them have been abused or neglected, many are seniors, most just need some understanding and patience. A lot of them have never heard a vacuum before or even felt a kind pat on their heads. Fostering them prepares them for the life they so richly deserve when a kind person adopts from us. When you adopt a shelter dog, you are making a giant step in reducing euthanasia for all these great dogs looking for a home. It is not their fault, it is the fault of the human that previously was involved in their life. Thanks for checking out our website, maybe you will find the pal of your dreams.
