Briar is an 8-month-old Terrier mix with a heart as soft as his velvety black fur. Equal parts playful and gentle, this boy is a natural star who shines both in person and on camera. That’s right—Briar is a total model! Whether he’s mid-splash in the kiddie pool or snuggled up for some well-deserved cuddles, the camera can’t seem to get enough of him, and honestly, we get it.
This pup came to us as a stray in August, and despite being overlooked time and time again, he hasn’t let that dim his spirit. Briar spends his days doing what he loves most: chasing squeaky toys, wrestling with his doggy friends, and sharing quiet moments with people who take the time to get to know him. He’s a hugger (literally!), a lap-warmer, and the kind of dog who makes you feel like the most important person in the world when he’s with you.
But Briar isn’t just a playful pup; he’s a gentle soul who craves connection. After a day of fun, he’ll happily curl up in your lap while you brush his impossibly soft coat, content to soak up all the love you have to give.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
