Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Polly; she’s from Bali! (Well, maybe. She’s from somewhere in Indonesia!) Polly was rescued from an Indonesian meat market and has been settling in well to her new life in the USA.
Polly is a sweet, curious, and independent girl who loves walks, hikes and playing with toys. She is a fan of puzzle toys, tug-of-war, and we’re working on learning fetch! Polly is mellow overall, but she still gets the zoomies sometimes and needs a chance to burn off some energy each day. She would be a great companion for someone who is active or at least likes walking and playing engaging games with her, but she also spends a good portion of the day snoozing and quietly entertaining herself. Polly has a goofy side, too, and will jump around and “sing” from time to time!
Polly is reserved around people and dogs she does not know and takes a little while to warm up, but once she knows you, she is very sweet and loves to hang out with you and follow you around the house. She’s not the best dog for accompanying you to places crowded with other people, children, and dogs, but her active and curious nature would make her a great companion for more peaceful outings. Polly isn’t exactly a cuddle queen (yet), but she likes to sit next to her humans on the couch or curl up at their feet on the floor. She has become more affectionate with her foster family with each passing day! Polly seems house trained. She gets along well most of the time with her canine housemates, but we recommend a meet-and-greet with any other potential household dogs.
If you want a friend to keep you company and explore the world with, come meet Polly!

All of our adoptions begin with a visit to one of our adoption events. The adoption coordinator and/or the pet's foster parent will review the applications received. The applicant (if any) whose responses best fit the needs of the particular pet will generally be contacted within a week to schedule a home visit. A vet check and personal reference is also required prior to visiting your home. Our non-refundable adoption fee is $250 for dogs, $85 for kittens ($150 for a pair of kittens), and $75 for an adult cat. The fee covers spay/neuter, core vaccines (distemper and rabies), deworming, microchipping, and the general care of the animals. Per our contract, if you cannot keep your adopted pet for any reason, it must be returned to our program. We will try to find it a new home.

More about this rescue
The PGSPCA is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to animal welfare. We are chartered by the State of Maryland, but we receive no state or county funds. Our activities are supported solely by contributions, dues and fundraising events.
We have three main objectives:
• To reduce the number of unwanted litters of dogs and cats through our progressive spay/neuter program – We have altered more than 20,000 animals over the past five years, many of them at no charge;
• To prevent cruelty to animals and all animal suffering through humane education, neglect and cruelty investigations, protective legal action, and an active dog and cat adoption program – We receive about 1,000 calls a month for cruelty investigations, spay and neuter assistance and adoption requests;
• To protect all animals against suffering and abuse through education on legislation affecting the protection of all animals – We regularly educate the public and provide testimony about animal welfare to county and state legislators.
