Meet Laney: A Beautiful Soul in Need of the Right Home
Laney came to Sunny Bear Rescue from another rescue after surviving abuse that left her deeply shaken. In her previous environment, she was too scared to eat or drink and would cower under tables, unable to feel safe. Knowing she needed a different approach, the other rescue entrusted Laney to us, believing our kennel-free setup could help her thrive—and they were right.
Since arriving at Sunny Bear Rescue, Laney has made incredible progress. While she’s still shy, she’s blossomed into a more confident and affectionate girl. Laney has chosen to spend most of her time outdoors, and we believe it’s her way of coping with past trauma. At first, she wouldn’t come inside at all, even during big storms. We respected her comfort zone, providing her with a safe outdoor space and letting her come inside on her terms.
Now, thanks to love, patience, and persistence, Laney has started to trust more. She uses the dog door to come inside occasionally, especially during storms, and even greets us from time to time—a big step for this brave girl! However, we still haven’t been able to get her to stay inside at night. She feels safest outside, and we honor her choice while continuing to work on building her confidence.
We’re also thrilled to share that The HOWS Project was kind enough to build and donate a dog house specifically for Laney. This incredible gesture means that if you adopt Laney, she will come with the very dog house built just for her—providing her with a sense of security and comfort that she deserves.
Laney is good with other dogs and finds comfort in their companionship. She would do best in a home with another calm, confident dog who can show her the ropes and continue to help her trust humans. Her ideal adopter is someone who understands her journey and is willing to give her the time she needs to feel at home. If you have a dog door and the patience to show Laney that it’s okay to come inside and be part of the family, you could be the person she’s been waiting for.
Laney may have a shy personality, but with love and kindness, she will show you her sweet, affectionate side. She’s proof that even the most broken hearts can heal with the right care.
Are you ready to be the one who gives Laney the forever home she deserves?
