My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Teddy was found alone roaming the streets. Petrescue was alerted by a compassionate police officer, and Teddy is now as happy as can be at Petrescue. Teddy is a one person dog... a friendly, affectionate boy, who loves to be with his special person. He is a lover, and ideally, his forever home will be with a single person to whom he can give all his love. He will be your best buddy and stick close. Teddy loves to play fetch and chase! When he's playing fetch, if he's excited he will do these adorable little bunny hops as he goes after the toy! He can also play tug a little bit, but has an extremely weak grip when tugging, and releases the toys very quickly. Teddy really enjoys pets and full-body massages. He loves laying and generally being near the person to whom he is bonded. He will follow his person around like a little shadow. If you're busy, he doesn't mind hanging out elsewhere in the same room - he is happy just to be able to see you! Teddy loves to be held and carried, and will try to give you kisses and/or snuggle into the crook of your neck if he can. If you set him down before he's ready, he will hop up and ask you for more! Teddy has sensitive skin, but enjoys being gently combed, and will lay down and relax throughout the combing session. - Training comes easily to Teddy, as he is very food motivated, but also responds well to praise. His foster mom says Teddy LOVES to walk, and has happily walked for 2-3 hours a day. He can easily walk for over an hour at a time, and has lots of energy in his little body! During walks, Teddy loves taking 'zoomies' breaks on large patches of grass. He'll sprint in circles around you, grinning the entire time! Teddy became housetrained within a week of joining his foster family. He is very quick to pick up on rules and patterns! He has mostly cemented his understanding of the 'sit' command. Teddy also understands the concept of a release word. He's been practicing holding the 'sit' until the word "Okay!" paired with a hand motion. He practices this whenever he gets a meal, a treat, or a walk before going outside and he's doing well. All in all, Teddy is a love, who is very smart, energetic, and sweet, with so much love and companionship to offer to the right person. While many of our animals are kenneled in our facility, many are fostered in loving homes which provides special care and attention - and allows Pet Rescue to expertly match our pets with prospective homes.

More about this rescue

Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization founded in 1982 by volunteer workers who met at a "no-kill" animal shelter. Dismayed at the terrible living conditions of the animals there, they left to establish a rescue group to properly care for cats and dogs in need, and find them safe and loving homes.

Many of our animals are fostered by group members and outside volunteers, while other animals are housed at our facility. The animals come from various places. Some come from owners who are no longer able to care for them. Others are taken from shelters, yet still others (many others) come from the streets. Those rescued from the streets often arrive sick or injured, and are subsequently treated by veterinarians. We have great success finding homes for puppies and kittens as well as older animals and those with special needs (such as blind and handicapped cats and dogs). We pride ourselves on finding the best match between people and pets. We average about 600 adoptions per year!

We are always in need of donations to help us continue our mission - and we could not survive without our wonderful volunteers. We are always in need of more foster homes. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about us! https://www.ny-petrescue.org
