My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I’m Checkers. I am a little Beagle mix. I was purchased as a puppy to be a hunting dog, but my owner never went hunting and so I sat in an outdoor kennel for 5 long years before being surrendered to a shelter in Kentucky. I traveled to PA and am now learning how to be an indoor dog. I love other dogs and really need to have a doggy friend to help me learn the ways of humans. Couches are my new favorite thing and treats are a bonus too. I am learning that lifting my leg in the house is a no-no, but I do sometimes forget — it takes awhile to break bad habits — so I would appreciate your patience with me. If you have a doggy friend that needs a little buddy, I’d love to meet them. Oh, and you too! It may take me a minute to warm up to you, but I want so badly to be loved.

If your application is chosen and approved we will setup a meet and greet with the pet. You will hear back regardless if chosen or not.

We place the dogs in the best home not the first home. Please be patient while we go over all apps and we will be in touch.

We are foster based. You must apply on Crossyourpaws.com first. If your application is chosen as the best fit for the dog we will move forward with the approval process. Once approved you will be setup with a time to meet the dog. Our dogs are all over the greater Pittsburgh area.

Our decision to start a rescue is not one that we have taken lightly, it has come after years of volunteer work with other groups. Our goal is to make this world a place where starving, abused animals is a thing of the past. That shelters filled with dogs and cats waiting to be euthanized is unheard of. We want euthanasia to be something to help pets on their way to the Rainbow bridge not to end lives because of overpopulation. We vow to save every life that we can.
