My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Georgia Wood (georgiaw@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome black and white boy!

TY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:    Ty        Best Guess for Breed:    terrier/lab mix

Best Guess for Age:    2 years as of May 2024       SEX:    male

Approximate Weight:    30 lbs

Gets Along With:  other dogs. Ty must go to a home with a resident dog to help build his confidence! If you have young children in the home, Ty might not be the best fit for your family, but we are happy to discuss it with you.

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home

Special adoption considerations:Because Ty is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Ty in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.

Ty is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.

We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Ty is Looking For:  his new home in the DC area! He is looking for a family to give him lots of love and take him on long walks to the park to play with his friends. He's excited to go to obedience training and learn to be the very best boy, and have many years of love in his new home!

What My Foster Says About Me:  'What a good boy you are!' is what Ty hears the most in my house.  'Aren't you so handsome?' is what Ty hears second most.  Ty has a shiny black coat with a small white stripe on his chest, almost like a built-in tie.  He's fit and the perfect size, not too small, not too big - just right.  Ty is friendly with other dogs and is learning that people will give him treats and belly rubs, so he's starting to trust people.  Ty is learning quickly to do his business outside.  He would do well in an apartment because he's as quiet as a mouse.  Ty likes to settle down near me, occasionally making eye contact with his carmel colored eyes and I tell him once again 'Aren't you so handsome!'

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
