Hello, my name is Ruby, and I am about 2 years old. As you can tell by my pictures, I'm a cutie. I'm a quiet girl and like to lay by your feet. I guess you stay I'm stubborn at times (hello my breeding?) so if I don't like to do something I put on the brakes and I will talk back to you. I guess you can also say I need a Leader or Coach to teach me that I'm not in charge - you are. That's what my foster Mom is doing for me right now. I'm in a foster home with other dogs & cats and I am ok with them. The big dogs at first, I was nervous. I hid under a chair, but my foster Mom would assure me I am ok. I don't like when other dogs or even people get in my face. Sure, my face is adorable but who likes to have someone right in their face? Not me. So, I have learned that I am ok when another dog does it and we both get corrected. If I could pick my perfect home, it would have many one other dog who I can learn from. That's what I'm also learning in my foster home. I'm learning a routine of when we go outside, when we get our food (more on that) and when it's time to go to bed. I'm house trained but I don't tell you have I have to go outside to do my business. I love going for car rides but sometimes I need help being picked up. For this, my foster Mom scoops me up under my belly. See, my belly is quite big. Remember the note on food - well I like food! I'm not aggressive but in my last home I got fed a lot and I am quite chubby. Actually, the Vet said I'm obese. I don't understand that word but my foster Mom does so she limits me on how much I can eat. I would benefit from being walked every day and I do walk well on my leash. I weigh 20#s and vet said I should be around 9-12#s. My new family has a challenge! You need to lose weight? We can be fitness partners. I'm a young gal that sadly was not told the word NO. So, when I don't want to do something, I will talk back to you. I need someone who can be my Leader or Coach and correct me with my bad behaviors. I like to please people and love to be told I'm a good girl. My chubby little body will waddle and wiggle because I love praise! I might do well in an apartment dwelling but not sure about kids. Remember the note on me liking things in my face? Well, little kids have fingers that can go in my face. Maybe you can have kids that visit and I'm quite fine hanging out in another room on my doggie bed or a couch. So, what do you think? Looking for a walking buddy? Home check is done after the meet & greet.All family members & current pets must be present. Final adoption is done at same time.

When adoption is finalized all vet records and information regarding your new pet is provided.

To get started in adopting: Please fill out our adoption application and after reviewing our foster family will set up a meet & greet; if applicable. An adoption application link can be found in each Treasured Gems (adoptable pets) profile.
• Spay/neuter before adoption. If under 16 weeks, it will be coordinated with Adoptive family at one of our Rescue affiliated Veterinarian clinics. Treasured Animal Rescue MUST spay/neuter within 30 days of adoption date per the State of Illinois Animal Welfare Act (25 ILCS 605 Section 25.140
• Microchip and registration with HomeAgain. TAR has registered all microchips for our adoptable’s, and family's will be given a transfer form.
• Initial de-worming, flea & tick prevention/treatment (see note below) and heart worm prevention
• Age-appropriate testing for heartworm/FIV-FELV
• Age-appropriate vaccines
• Wellness check exam
**Note on fleas** Those sneaky little critters can hitch a free ride into your home aboard another pet, person, or even rodent, so it is important to make sure your new pet is protected. Depending on the time frame your adoptable pet has been in our foster care it might have had just 1 dose – which is not enough. Please consult with your Vet on putting your new adoptable pet on yearly flea/tick prevention – even if they are an indoor pet.
Adoption fees:
Puppies/Dogs - $400
Seniors - $275
**Some dog breeds require additional vetting which leads to an adoption fee to not adhere to the pricing guideline above. There are many circumstances where an adoptable pet has an adoption fee that varies from above schedule due to their vetting needs while in our foster care.
Cats & Kittens - $150
**Treasured Animal Rescue highly recommends adopting kittens in pairs, to avoid any potential behavioral issues like biting, scratching and not using the litter box. Also, adopting 2 kittens lessens stress on the tiny kitten which provides a healthier transition. **
