My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*New Behavior Notes*
Meet Kano, a shy but endearing pup with soft eyes and a gentle demeanor. Though he may initially tuck his tail and take his time, He is very responsive to a kind, patient approach.
Kano is easily leashed and exits his kennel smoothly. This fella appreciates neck rubs and will push his head into your hand for affection. Once he feels secure, he becomes playful and enjoys showing off his "sit command. With patience and love, Kano is ready to thrive in a caring home.

Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Kano at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him.

Notes from shelter friends:
**new** 9/3/24 day trip notes: I took Kano (A-172551) out for a day trip on Sunday, the 1st. He was such a perfect boy! We went on a hike at the Wissahickon, and while he is extremely strong, he was quite easy on the leash and didn't pull too much. He was non-reactive to other dogs and people that passed by on the trail, and he stayed close to my side. I expected him to be jumpy and excitable but he was mostly well-behaved or easily redirected, and he did great in the car. After the hike, he enjoyed a McDonald's cheeseburger and a big bowl of water. He cried a bit when I returned him to the shelter, which was heartbreaking but shows how quickly he gets attached and loves people.
Here are a few pics of our adventure. Thanks for allowing me to spend time with him! Hope he finds his perfect match

**new** 9/2/24 per volunteer: kano is a super sweet boy! Getting him out of his kennel was fine! He was easy to leash and walked pretty well on leash with minimal pulling. In the run he pretty much stayed with me the whole time. He allowed all petting without an issue. When returning to kennel he walked well back but I did have to try a few times to get him in his kennel as he did try to run back out a few times. After a few tries he went in and stayed in without a problem.

8/29/24 volunteer notes: Kano- what a stunner!! Was very easy to get out of kennel. Although a large dog, not difficult to handle at all. Definitely house trained, went to the bathroom multiple times immediately outside. Had a really cute fence me with another dog Magic Mike. He was slow to approach but then he was doing lots of play bows. He's really affectionate and rubs into you and loves getting ear scratches. Wasn't too interested in treats. He did hesitate to go back into kennel and would approach it, and then pivot away. If you are patient, he eventually goes in but it's best to use the clip method since he likes to jump in and then out of kennel.

Per staff on 8/29: Kano came out for activity time today. Kano is a very wild and wiggly boy who loves to play. He can get very jumpy but calms himself down. He is a very goofy boy, hopping around and pretending to play -- doing the cutest tippy taps. He loves to play and loves cuddles, wagging his tail all the time and pretending to mouth hands. Kano is very respectful and tries his best to listen. He is overall a perfect goofy boy!!!

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION (8/26):

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Kano was peering out the crack of the kennel door and gave the handler some tucked wags and semi soft eyes. He was easily leashed and came out of his kennel perfectly. Kano did slightly whip his head back when surprised with a small touch

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately

HANDLING:
Kano gets pretty uncomfortable and flincgy with touch. When he handler spoke to him in a baby voice and called him over he pushed his body on them and began tippy tapping and gave some small wags. He loves neck rubs and will push his head into your hand. Kano needs a slow approach and time to adjust. He is very tolerant to touch but pull away and avoides contact around his mouth. Kano knows sit and can become very playful once hes comfortable

PLAY
Very minimal interest, ran around for a little with the handler before stopping

TOYS:
No interest- very scared (tucked tail and moves away)

COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Gold
