Steffi`s foster says: `Steffi is a timid girl who loves to play. She started her life as a community cat, and after two months in foster care for socialization, she has made huge strides toward leaving the spicy life behind and starting a new life as a house cat. She will play with any toy she is given and has learned to be gentle with people’s hands. She has not yet gotten comfortable being pet or receiving scritches, but she is happy to smell or gently wrestle with a human hand and often reaches out to touch my hand with her paw when I put out food for her. If I reach to pet her she will pull away, but she likes to watch me pet the other resident cats and I can tell she is thinking about it. She is very friendly and docile with other cats and would likely do best in a home with a cat sibling because she is learning a lot about house life from watching the other cats.
Steffi is not fully reformed yet, but in a calm home with patient, loving people, it is just a matter of time before she returns your affection!`

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
