My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello from Texas, my name is Oscar and I am a 5-year-old, 72 lb, tripod Husky with one blue eye, a heartwrenching story, and I am looking for a forever home somewhere in the Northeastern states. I was chained to a pole for 4 long years outside my owner's home in a small town near San Antonio. I was miserable with no love or attention, no access to shade, rarely water, rarely food, and very underweight at 49 lbs but that was my life until one night when I was brutally attacked by coyotes leaving my leg so badly mangled it needed to be amputated. Instead, my owner decided to euthanize me and that's when a kindly neighbor and a dog rescue got involved, saved my life, and sent me for surgery. I won't deny it was rough at first, I was scared, adjusting to having only 3 legs, learning about love and human kindness, and through it all my foster mom was patiently waiting for me to figure it out. Once I did, there was no going back. I’m happy. I love life. I love the little kisses she plants on my forehead. Yep, I’m ready to leave Texas and start a new adventure as someone’s forever dog.

I am a good boy, friendly with humans, even when we first meet, I’ll introduce myself, and sit beside you for pets on the head. I’m good with other easygoing dogs, not playful with my doggy friends but I coexist nicely and hang out with them. I may not be playful with other dogs, but I’m very playful with my doggy toys. My favorites are the stuffed toys. I like to carry them around and toss them in the air and then chase after them, not dismantle them. I am fully housebroken and an expert doggy door user. I am well-behaved, only bark to alert, and have actually never howled. I LOVE going for walks and rides in the car to anywhere, but mostly to your town, hint hint.

Additional adoption info

Please DO NOT apply unless the entire family / household is on board with adopting one of our dogs. We must receive an application for you to move forward in the process. Thoughtful direct emails are welcome and will be answered. However, an application is still a necessary step. We want to make sure we find our dogs a perfect fit with a family so both the dog and the family are happy. We keep our dogs with fosters once we get them out of shelters for a little bit to learn and understand their personalities. Our relationship with families doesn't stop at adoption! We are always available for any follow up questions and are happy to be a resource as you and your new pet settle into a routine.
