Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Cricket!!!
Cricket recently found himself as a stray at a local shelter. Sadly his family did not come for him and when he caught a doggie cold he was quickly listed for euthanasia. Luckily for Cricket and us a temporary foster stepped up to help save him. Cricket is over his doggie cold now and ready to find a foster or forever home. Cricket is a big, big boy and basically a puppy in a 85 pound body. We think he’s about a year old. Cricket loves people and seems to have some house manners (e.g. house broken) but still has some puppy mischievousness in him.
Cricket has come a long way since arriving to our rescue and while he is still learning how to socialize with other dogs, we know that he does well with dogs his size. In fact, he occasionally enjoys a day trip with one of our volunteers where he goes to work with her and with proper introduction he does amazingly well with all his new dog friends and all the new people he meets along the way. His new family should have strong dog experience and be able to handle a 85 lb “teddy bear”. He is doing great with his leash skills and basic commands.
Cricket, like most dogs, has a few quirks of his own. His arch nemesis are the neighborhood squirrels so just be sure to have a good hold on his leash when you come across one. We are working on decreasing this prey drive of his but it’s not uncommon for dogs to want to chase squirrels and other critters. With his prey drive focus we recommend a home with no small dogs, cats, or other animals because he just doesn’t know his own size.
Cricket would love to find a real family this time around who will love and care for him and help him become the best dog possible. If that family sounds like yours, email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Cricket is located in Southern California.
