My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

As you can imagine, working in Animal Welfare can be very rewarding. We are the voice for the voiceless and take that role to heart. Sometimes, we help animals that have come from abusive or neglectful situation and being the first people to be able to show an animal love and safety is one of the best parts of our job. The ABSOLUTE best part of the job is when we get to watch these precious souls walk out of our building with a new family to love and keep them safe.

Our staff is fueled by the updates we get from adopters and the pictures that show a happy/ healthy pet, instead of a shelter animal.

Zachary was an example of a dog that came to us from a neglectful situation in October of 2022. He was very shy and cautious when he first came in but very quickly warmed up and became a staff and volunteer favorite! We adopted him out a couple months later and watched him leave with an adopter who promised to love him and keep him safe.

While we would love to go home with every animal to ensure the adopter follows through on their promise, we have to rely on their word and usually, that is enough. Unfortunately, in this case, it wasn't... Recently, we were emailed a disturbing video of a dog being abused on an elevator and were absolutely horrified to learn it was our Zachary. The promise made to us and Zachary had been broken.

While we cannot get into specifics of the situation due to legal reasons, we think it is very important to share his story and remind people how important it is to be the voice for the voiceless. Because someone was willing to send the video of Zachary being abused to Animal Control, they were able to get him out of that situation and back to us.

He is now safe and sound and living in our Behavior Team's office. He enjoys his daily trips to the play yard and getting all the love he deserves from the staff and volunteers.

Now it is time for this gentle soul to find the home and family he deserves. He enjoys playing with compatible dogs, burying his bones and snuggling. He would love a fenced yard to call his own and a family that is very gentle with him.

Thank you for sharing his story and helping dogs like Zachary by being the voice for the voiceless.
