KAYKAY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Kaykay Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua and Terrier mix
Best Guess for Age: 7 years Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 12 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Kaykay with cats or kids, but she can be tested! We would be cautious placing Kaykay in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.
Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter - Kaykay needs an adopter or foster to make her way to the DC area
Special Adoption Considerations: Kaykay is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
