Karen is a 10-12-year-old, 6-pound female Chihuahua mix from Texas. She found herself in a shelter after—her owner was knitting, and Karen couldn't resist going after the ball of yarn. While it might sound like a joke, it's actually true...Fortunately for us, this turn of events has brought this absolute gem into our life!
Karen is the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a cozy, low-key lifestyle. She loves to sleep on the tops of couch cushions or burrow herself into beds or pillows. It's not uncommon to lift something up and find her snuggled underneath! Karen needs a bit of patience at first to feel safe, but once you've earned her trust, she'll be your loyal companion for life. If she gets scared, she'll seek comfort from her humans.
During her time with her foster family, Karen is trained on both pee pads and outdoors. She's surprisingly great on a leash! If she notices one of her foster siblings heading outside, she'll rush over to join in. Karen's foster family lives on the 3rd floor, and while the those stairs are a bit too steep for her, she has no trouble using doggy stairs inside the apartment to get on and off the bed or couch.
Karen excels as a work-from-home or office dog. She loves being on your lap during Zoom calls or napping peacefully in her dog bed. Although she prefers her own space and doesn't interact much with her foster siblings, their presence provides her comfort when she's home alone. Karen would thrive in a home with another older dog or senior pet who can coexist alongside her.
Karen does exhibit some separation anxiety when left alone, but she quiets down fairly easily and returns to her nap. She's comfortable sleeping either in or out of a crate, though she usually opts for a dog bed next to her humans' bed.
Karen is looking for a low-key family who appreciates plenty of downtime. Due to her need for a calm environment, we do not recommend placing Karen in a home with young children. However, she would do well with older, respectful kids who understand and respect a dog's boundaries.
Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative and microchipped. Recent dental cleaning. We are unsure if Karen is neutered. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
To apply for Karen, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.
Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.
